New route to Abuja, Nigeria Launched by Qatar Airways

From November 27th, Qatar Airways will operate three weekly flights via Lagos to Abuja, Nigeria.

This makes the city the sixth new destination declared by Qatar's national carrier since the start of the pandemic.

A Boeing 787 Dreamliner will run the Abuja service with 22 business seats and 232 economy class seats.

Akbar Al Baker, chief executive of the Qatar Airways Group, said: "We are delighted to be launching flights to Nigeria's capital."

With the large Nigerian diaspora in Europe, the United States and the United Kingdom, in addition to our current Lagos flights that began back in 2007, we are excited to be flying to Abuja now.

"We look forward to working closely with our Nigerian partners to steadily expand this route and to support the region's tourism and trade recovery."

More than 65 weekly flights to 20 destinations in Africa will be operated by Qatar Airways by mid-December, including Accra, Addis Ababa, Cape Town, Casablanca, Dar es Salaam, Djibouti, Durban, Entebbe, Johannesburg, Kigali, Kilimanjaro, Lagos, Maputo, Mogadishu, Nairobi, Seychelles, Tunis, and Zanzibar.

Even today, to mark two years to go before the tournament kicks off on November 21st, Qatar Airways unveiled a specially branded Boeing 777 aircraft painted in a FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 livery.

To celebrate the airline's collaboration with FIFA, the bespoke plane, which features distinctive FIFA World Cup branding, was hand-painted.

The livery will be used on more aircraft in the Qatar Airways fleet and will visit many network destinations.

On tomorrow's operational flights QR095 and QR096 between Doha and Zurich, the Boeing 777-300ER will enter operations.

Al Baker said: "In introducing this unique aircraft to our fleet, we are extremely excited to celebrate our partnership with FIFA and Qatar's status as host of the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022."

"As FIFA's official partner and official airline, with two years to go, we can feel the excitement building until we welcome the world to our beautiful country."
